Your snark aside, I do not think so, at least as long as this music is the source material. Perhaps you are right that if a book fleshed out these characters and created reasons for us to care, that would help. I was actually thinking about why Bob Dylan's songs worked in Girl From the North Country and I think that the reason is that they were not trying to be be book songs, so it was OK that they served to comment on or even set the mood. Perhaps that approach could work with this material. But as it is, it's hard for me to imagine improvement. What is the potential that you see here?
