Funny you should bring this up. I just saw an absolutely wonderful production of Hair at Columbia College in Chicago last Saturday. The production has 4 more shows- Wednesday-Saturday this week. Tickets on Eventbright. The production was set in the 60’s but they used a really effective (and moving) news reel to take us from present day to back in time and then the show starts with references to the 1968 DNC and riots that actually took place just one block from the school. The cast was excellent and it was nice to see a show use an ensemble of 20+ people. The orchestra had a brass section that was amazing- especially Aquarius. Also moving was the audience response to this production. At intermission, the older people in the audience (including me) were talking about the past and the younger people were talking about the present. I might have to go back again to hear these songs again with a full orchestra and ensemble of singers. |
