ACCLAIMED COMEDIAN GARY GULMAN TO MAKE OFF-BROADWAY DEBUT WITH WORLD PREMIERE SOLO SHOW GRANDILOQUENT DIRECTED BY TONY AWARD NOMINEE MORITZ VON STUELPNAGEL LIMITED FIVE-WEEK ENGAGEMENT JANUARY 7 – FEBRUARY 8, 2025 AT THE LUCILLE LORTEL THEATRE Mike and Carlee Productions (Oh, Mary!; Alex Edelman's Just For Us), AGI Entertainment's Brian Stern, and Michael Bonfiglio have announced that acclaimed comedian Gary Gulman (HBO Specials: The Great Depresh, Born on 3rd Base; Hulu's Life & Beth) will make his Off-Broadway debut this winter, with the world premiere of his new solo show Grandiloquent, directed by Tony Award nominee Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Hand To God, I Need That) and is presented by special arrangement with the Lucille Lortel Theatre. The show will play the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC), beginning Tuesday, January 7, 2025 for a limited engagement through Saturday, February 8, 2025. Opening Night is set for Sunday, January 19. "Grandiloquent is the show I got into comedy to do," said Gulman. "It's the culmination of 48 years of my reading and writing and performing. I am so grateful to be able to bring it to the venerable Lucille Lortel Theatre, where I've seen so much extraordinary work." Declared by Esquire as "America's most literate stand-up comedian, who can make absolutely anything funny," Gary Gulman premieres this new solo show hot off the release of his acclaimed memoir Misfit, and his fifth stand up special – Born On 3rd Base for HBO Max – which was named a Top Ten Best Comedy of 2023 by The New York Times, New York Magazine, and Decider. Gulman's tour-de-force HBO special The Great Depresh, deemed "his masterpiece" by Vanity Fair and "powerful, sneaky genius" by The New York Times, delivered a daringly funny and poignant examination of his battle with depression. New York Magazine described Gulman's singular style as "meticulously crafted, yet exploratory; absurd, but with an approachable everyman quality…what distinguishes him from other comedians is his ability and willingness to translate observation into a more global perspective." Grandiloquent is Gulman's hilarious new show about insecurity, empathy, self-acceptance and how a thoughtful boy learned to use humor, reading and writing to cope with the consequences of his parents' blunders. Learn why a seemingly confident middle-aged man feels most comfortable in a large room where a thousand strangers are laughing at him. The production will feature Scenic Design by Tony Award winner Beowulf Boritt (New York, New York; POTUS), Lighting Design by Adam Honoré (Purlie Victorious, Cats: The Jellicle Ball), and Sound Design by UptownWorks (Black Odyssey, Five). Grandiloquent is co-produced by Nelson & Tao, Nathan Mardis and the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Tickets are $49–$115, and are available now at GulmanShow.com. The regular performance schedule for Grandiloquent is Tuesday-Friday at 7pm, Saturdays at 5pm & 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm. Tickets can be purchased at Lortel.org and in person at the Lortel box office Tuesday - Friday from 4 - 7pm and Saturday & Sunday 11am - 7:30pm. Lortel member tickets are available. GulmanShow.com @garygulman @grandiloquentshow Gary Gulman (Writer/Performer) has established himself as an eminent performer and peerless writer. A product of Boston, Gulman has been a scholarship college football player, an accountant, and a high school teacher. He has made countless television appearances as both a comedian and an actor. Gulman has made five masterful TV specials including his most recent universally acclaimed stand-up specials for Max, "Born On 3rd Base", lending his meticulous comedic craft to the current Tale of Two Cities-esque wealth gap, and HBO's "The Great Depresh", a tour de force look at mental illness, which is equal parts hilarious and inspiring. In 2019, he appeared in the international blockbuster "Joker". He can most recently be seen co-starring with Amy Schumer in the hit Hulu comedy series, "Life & Beth". Gary's first book published by Flatiron Books is titled "Misfit: Growing Up Awkward in the '80s", a memoir based on his life from Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade. It was released in September of 2023. Amy Schumer called the book "laugh out loud funny and heartfelt" and MacArthur Fellowship recipient Adrian Nicole LeBlanc found it "exquisite, love-affirming and generous". Today, Gulman is one of the most popular touring comics, selling out theaters around the country including the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City. Gary is currently touring with "Misfit: A Gary Gulman Stand Up & Book Tour", which features material based on his book, but not a repeat of the book. Gary lives in Harlem with his wife.
