I still love the score for MAGIC SHOW and I will always remember Anita Morris singing "Charmin's Lament" while being cut in two. To my then young eyes, it was a delight. I recently saw a 45 minute edition of the show presented at L.A. The Magic Castle, and it was not a great experience. Its focus was on the rivalry between the young magician (in this case Alexx Alexander) and the older magician, with the subplot of Cal longing for Alexx (young magician) included. One trick from the original show looked very bad in the small showroom, but the rest of the magic was good. These five songs were used: "Up To His Old Tricks" "Lion Tamer" "Style" "A Bit of Villainy" and "Before Your Very Eyes". Interestingly enough, it was not presented as an edited version of "The Magic Show" but as a traditional showroom presentation, so attendees didn't necessarily know they were going to see a short musical. There was a video introduction by Stephen Schwartz briefly discussing the show's history.
