My (uncertain) memory was that Elton John was not happy with Lestat, and didn't want a recording to be released. I assume that he's happier with this score, given that the London production was followed up with a Broadway transfer (is that too big an assumption?), so he might be more willing to 'fund' a cast recording in this instance???
