| You may not be able to answer the question since you didn't see Butz, but was Cusick more like Butz or more the way the role has come to be cast since? I can see two schools of thought for an understudy...one, that they'd want someone who would emulate Butz and give an approximation of the performance he was giving to make things easier for the rest of the cast when the understudy is on, or 2) they'd want an understudy who is also going to be covering other roles and/or being part of the ensemble and, thus, more versatile and not necessarily the same type as Butz. |
