Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth have the innate star quality that casts a long shadow over roles, even if others have sung or acted the witches better in the decades since. Purely from a vocal standpoint, I think Jessica Vosk and Katie Rose Clarke set a benchmark for Elphaba and Glinda that has not been surpassed.
As a side note, having recently seen the production again, Mary Kate Morrissey and Alexandra Socha are delivering distinctive, idiosyncratic acting choices and extremely healthy singing in the roles, very nice to see 21 years into the run! |
