Dorothy Loudon as Bea put in a spectacular performance considering what she was given. Would the show have survived a bit longer if they had cast the role of Bea with a better known star/celebrity from the start? Before Loudon was cast was there a short list of actresses to play the role? In 1978 I wonder who would have been appropriate and sell tickets?
On a side note it is interesting that Loudon was understudied by Liz Sheridan who went on to play Jerry's mother in the Seinfeld sitcom (alongside Barney Martin who created the role of Amos in Fosse's original CHICAGO). |
