There are *a lot* of long runs currently on Broadway. In the 39 houses (Palace and Majestic are dark, with the Palace about to reopen), 13 shows - one-third - have run more than 500 performances, which used to be considered a long run. Of those, 10 have run more than 1,000 performances and two have run more than *10,000* performances. Last week, of the 35 shows running, 14 grossed over $1 million each; 22 were at 90% capacity or higher. A lot of people are going to the theater and spending a lot of money. Admittedly, there is no breakout show this season, but the problem lies elsewhere. |
