Were there pre-recorded vocals for the mourners in the run at the Shed

It looks like there are 20 people who aren't otherwise part of the show who are the "mourner singers" for Track 9, "It Is What It Is." Were there pre-recorded vocals for the mourner singers in the run at The Shed? Assuming this is the same track that was used at the Shed, I wonder what led to these pre-recorded vocals. It doesn't seem like the understudies lent their voices to the mourners, at least on the recording, although I guess they could have sung live during The Shed performances.

If this were in fact a case of pre-recorded vocals, are there other examples of that in the Sondheim canon?
