I didn't see any reference to Dame Judi- note the spelling- being "angry". She was expressing what is a pretty common sentiment among a lot of theatre people, specifically theatre people of a certain age. (I'd put that age to be about 40 and up.)

I personally don't even take in the trigger warnings that are posted in the lobby or in the programme. I don't find it hard to ignore them and given Dame Judi's regrettably failing eyesight presumably it isn't hard for to ignore them either. But I think it's entirely valid to question why people are increasingly unable to process any behaviour or opinion that is either violent or does not sync with their world view.

I'm assuming that thirty or forty years ago there must have been incidents of epileptics having seizures when strobe lights kicked in, or people collapsing at the sound of a loud gunshot. (And I acknowledge that a sudden gunshot can be very jarring.) But jarring the audience is the author's intent and to soften the blow only diminishes the play.

As to warnings about the discussion of slavery. How else can we eradicate such a horror from ever happening again if we don't remind ourselves of it?
