Perhaps you recall the poster who used to ask about every show whether there were gunshots in it. That poster was often an object of ridicule, but had a genuine fear of hearing a gunshot, to the point that they wouldn't go to the theater if they weren't aware of whether there would be one. That person benefits from content warnings, as do others with similar phobias or traumas. It may be an author's intent to jarr us with a gunshot, but where most of us will be jarred, others may have panic attacks. Is it worth helping them out, or should they stay home and never go to the theater?
