I saw the Boston tryout in the summer of 2018. I also enjoyed it quite a lot. The only thing I really thought was out of place was what seemed like an endless "megamix" at the end - but of course I know that for a lot of people that kind of thing is a huge audience pleaser. I also felt they could have trimmed the whole show down a bit. I don't know how close to what we saw made it to NYC. At the time, the biggest complaint seemed to be that Tveit and Olivo had no chemistry. What I felt then is that Tveit just wasn't giving much, aside from great vocals. I don't think the issue had anything to do with Olivo, who I thought was quite wonderful in the role of whom I have always jokingly renamed Saltine. :-)

Of course, the Boston tryout was also a HUGE BIG THING in of itself, because it was the first full production, of any show, to play the gratefully newly-reopened Colonial Theatre (some of you will know the horror story that proceeded that), so I admit that there was a huge sense of occasion about seeing that production that may have not had so much to do with the show itself. But still, I really did enjoy the show. So sue me. :-)
