Edgar Lansbury

I attended the Off Broadway Alliance award ceremony yesterday at Sardi's

It was a fantastic event. Everyone spoke with astonishing wit and candor. (Some great stories.) If the future of Off Broadway remains in the hands of people of this quality and commitment, Off Broadway has a very bright future.

David Lansbury spoke eloquently and emotionally about his father, the producer Edgar.

I didn't remember hearing of Edgar Lansbury's death. He died just this past May. But he got no NYTimes obituary. Come on, what do you have to do to get a little acknowledgement by the NYTimes? Edgar Lansbury produced some of the greatest Off Broadway productions, like Godspell, as well as Broadway, beginning The Subject Was Roses. (A search of All That Chat reveals comments made here following his death, but I must have missed them.)
