| I thought Friedman did nuanced and specific work with the three leads. Therefore I was surprised at how little thought was put into the show within the show! Musical Husbands. Yeah, I know it’s a hit but what kind of a show is it? A revue? A book show? They end up making it into a big budget movie! As portrayed here, it is as generic a number as the one Helen Lawson in Valley of the Dolls i( in front of a mobile) performs. Who is Gussie supposed to be, a nightclub singer, a triumphant wife? From the staging, set and costumes we don’t get a clue! |
