I agree with you. The first production of MERRILY that I ever saw was a community theatre production, which was produced not long after the original Broadway production closed and performing rights were made available to amateur groups (and, naturally, before any "revisions"). I knew ahead of time that the plot moved "backwards", but that was about all I knew. I had never heard any of the songs. I thoroughly enjoyed the show, didn't understand why it closed so quickly, and went out purchased the LP ("long playing record" for you young ones) the next day. I don't think I've enjoyed any subsequent production (which were not the original versions) as much. |
