The actress, born July 4, 1924, is, of course, best known for her films, especially "On the Waterfront" and "North by Northwest," but she did have a stage career. She debuted on Broadway in 1953 in TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL with Lillian Gish and Jo Van Fleet. Later, she was Mary Todd in THE LINCOLN MASK. At the Kennedy Center she starred in SUMMER AND SMOKE and decades later was one of the four actresses(Zoe Caldwell, Rosemary Harris and Estelle Parsons)in a symposium on Tennessee Williams that I had the great pleasure of attending. |
