London shows—I will never complain about a broadway theater again.

The three London theaters I went to were so bad—ambassador, phoenix and fortune. All owned by ATG.

All three required a flight down to the stalls (orchestra level). The first night I needed the elevator.

All three had very high stages. Ambassador must be 5-6 feet high. I was in row G and couldn’t see any shoes. The front row must have been torso and heads only.

All three had seats built for Lilliputians. I had center aisle at phoenix. I thought the guy was 6’8” the way his head blocked my view. At intermission I was shocked that he was no higher than 5’10” (I’m 6’). No staggered seating. And the seats are so low that my legs go upward so it’s a v shape on the butt. Sooo uncomfortable. The other theaters were uncomfortably cramped seats.

Bathrooms—two or three urinals max without any privacy partition. But that seems common in England. For kidney shy PAS (performance anxiety syndrome—yes, I made that up), it’s a nightmare. Waiting for the one stall wasn’t worth it. I just held it like an old man with prostate problems.

As for the shows—there wasn’t much to choose from after eliminating what’s on broadway already.
Kathy and Stella solve a murder (this replaced the early closing wildhorn musical you lied last April). It’s a cute off-broadway show. Songs are serviceable and the leads are likable. There were several British references that I didn’t get but the audience laughed at.

Operation mincemeat—I’m glad I watched the Netflix movie—so I knew the plot. It is really cast driven. The lead reminded me of the captain in come from away. She really holds the show together. Very likable cast playing multiple roles which I usually don’t like but worked here. Again, very solid offbroadway show. I paid 90 pounds and it wasn’t worth more than that. I do think it was similar to come from away in many aspects.

Stranger things—So glad I followed simbo’s advice to see s4e7 before the show. I’ve watched every season when they came out but I would have been lost otherwise. I felt the first act was so boring setting up the more interesting second act. The audience loved it. I was just so so evening. I liked the Harry Potter play better if one compares film media based stage shows. Marquis is a good choice of theater for broadway and will sell well but I doubt it will sweep the Tonys. The hot guy next to me had a ticket for the show a few weeks ago that was cancelled. He then watched the 4 seasons before seeing his rescheduled performance last night. A wise decision. I doubt he would have gotten anything out of it without the Netflix viewing.
