We're of differing opinions :). I like not necessarily knowing who John Golden or David Belasco were before Googling them. Julian Eltinge is someone whose name I know from his having once had a theatre named for him. I love learning about the past.
So many theatres were just named after the men who owned them, which is no mean feat, but in the case of London there are a lot that just bear the name of the street they are on (Strand, Aldwych, Piccadilly, Shaftesbury).
Specifically about the Lena Horne, I think that decision was made to placate a growing desire for representation and the more deserving options (Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis or Lloyd Richards, for instance) weren't sufficiently famous enough. |
