At the matinee Neuwirth seemed to be having a tough time with the notes, but she's a pro and it seemed in keeping with the character. I loved her work in this.

Re: my note that the cabaret sequences seemed apart from the time period. The costuming, stage business and choreography of the Kit Kat Club performers seemed very contemporary and overtly sexual, in ways not really reflective of the 30s cabaret scene (even in decadent Weimar Berlin). Contrast that with how Fosse staged the cabaret sequences in the film-- yes, very suggestive, very overt, very cartoonish, but also very much in keeping with stage comedy of the time). The dildo play and such in this production just seemed sophomoric, and not in keeping with the show or the history. The Kit Kat Club is a bit tawdry, yes, but it's still pulling in clientele from all levels of Berlin society. It just seemed like those sequences were set in a different place than the book scenes. It was a problem I had a bit with the Mendes version, too, but it seemed more jarring in this production.

Agree with you that the use of the turntable was very, very effective. Loved it.
