Why do British actors' credits always list the West End theatre they performed at?

I was curious to see if anyone had an explanation as to why British actors' playbill credits/bios always (or, at least, often) list the West End theatres at which they performed? I understand if it's a repertory theatre company like The National or Donmar Warehouse in London or Roundabout or Lincoln Center Theatre in New York, but I'm not sure I understand why they do it when the theatre is just... the venue.

I mean, if an American actor were doing this, it would read something like... "Bernadette Peters was last seen in 'Hello, Dolly!' at the Shubert, 'Follies' at The Marquis and 'A Little Night Music' at the Walter Kerr."
