I don't understand the rationale behind the partial dimming at all. The partial dimming divides the honor into tiers: full for those whom the League feels deserves it, and various types of partial depending on what the League feels this person deserves. Why make tiers for an honor? Is it so much work for a theater to dim the lights a handful of times a year that they want to create this tier system? Frankly, how much more work is it when you have another theater owned by the same company already doing it? It seems like they should do all the lights if they are going to do it at all (with the understanding that a particular theater may want to dim lights for a cast member with a strong association with that theater, outside of any full League decision).

As for Creel, unless the League thinks no one under 50 should get honored, it's hard to argue he doesn't deserve the full dimming if you look at his resume compared to others who have had the full dimming. He won a Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle Award, and an Olivier, and he had 3 Tony nominations in total. He appeared in 8 Broadway shows, including 5 in the last decade of his life. If I am reading ibdb.com correctly, he spent about 3 and a half years out of the last ten years of his life appearing on stage either on Broadway or in a national tour (not including his time in Walk on Through or other endeavors). I mentioned before that he may be the actor I've seen the most on a Broadway stage, and that may be true for a lot of newer theatergoers because he was so dedicated to the stage. And beyond the stage, he was a marriage equality activist and a member of the Board of Trustees for Broadway Cares, which are causes I presume the League wants us to think they care about.

This happened with Marin Mazzie and Hinton Battle, where the League was originally going to do a partial dimming but then re-considered after those decision were protested. I hope the same happens here.

Adam, thank you for creating the petition, which I signed. And I agree with your assessment that the League is really misreading the room, particularly for the younger/newer theatergoer, whom the League is supposedly trying to attract.
