I quite agree that there is no way to really make a rule about who is deserving of such an honor and who is not. But as far as this being an individual gesture akin to sending flowers or just a card or nothing, I disagree. When I send flowers or a card, I do not put out a press release detailing what i am doing and why and what the person meant to me. Nor do i expect anyone but persons personally close to the deceased to even see the flowers and probably only the immediate family to see the card. But theater owners by their "gesture" make this a public event to convey to the public how they are feeling and I cannot help but think they wish their gesture to be received by the public as respectful and sincere. And the public is telling them they feel it is not enough that Creel, in this case, deserves more than a handful of marquees. It is not done solely for his family either because part of the entire gesture is letting the family see what we are doing to show the public how much we loved and respected your loved one. |
