The show does indeed sound excellent, no matter what you think of the production overall.
Lloyd did an interview with Bloomberg (link below) where he said:
"... I love musicals to be sung impeccably; there’s a little bit of a trend in the UK, especially, for the vocals to come secondary to the acting. But I feel like you can have both. And that’s the aspiration of this production."
