Of course, those prices are ridiculously high for the final performance, which is a special occasion. But I checked in at various times during ''Merrily's'' 8-month run so far, and there were $99 tickets to be had. (Maybe not lately ...) Since ''Merrily'' started performing on Broadway last September, it has sold out every single week. It never grossed less than $1.2 million a week, and even did $2 million one week, and flirted with it a few more times. Which only goes to show that if there's a demand, audiences will pay whatever they need see a hit. Conversely, if audiences aren't interested in a show, even a critically acclaimed one, no amount of discounts or lower prices will get them to go. As for teens and those in their early 20s, many somehow find a way to go to pop/rock concerts that charge just as much if not more. |
