They did put the act break after "Violin" - actually, after the short scene that follows it. (I saw the production in its Boston run pre-Broadway, summer of '22.) I found it very odd, not just because I think "Momma Look Sharp" is a much more powerful way to end the act (especially with that new arrangement, which musically IMO was one of the most effective moments in the revival score), but conversely, because I thought "Violin" was not particularly strong in this production, and I wasn't particularly fond of the actor's take on the role. Though I sense I enjoyed the production in general much more than a lot of people did. Why did they move it? I have no idea. I could do some sleuthing around but I'm not sure I'll be able to find out. |
