Going way back - Robert Williams, who appeared on Broadway in a number of shows, including the original "Abie's Irish Rose", is known nowadays for the 1931 film "Platinum Blonde" where his work practically steals the film from co-stars Jean Harlow and Loretta Young. His comedic performance is of such high quality that had he not died a few days after the film's premiere at age 37 from peritonitis, he would have been formidable competition with the likes of Cary Grant and William Powell and other comedic leading men. Leslie Howard - famous film, West End and Broadway star - age 50 There's an entire wall at the Museum of Broadway listing the names of people who died of AIDS associated with the theater. Charles Ludlam didn't do Broadway, but who was hugely influential in theater, is among them, as are some others who have been already cited on this thread. It's actually quite a good museum -- a little pricey, but discounts are available at certain times. |
