That’s not exactly true, though. Most shows run through Christmas and New Year’s before they close in early January. I can’t remember a show that closed just before Christmas… What are the examples that we can look to?
Water for elephants has been treading water its entire run, and while they’ve had some good weeks, their overall trend has been to lose money. Either they’re getting kicked out super early, or they’ve run the numbers and December 8 is the last day they can afford to lose money, which means they are not confident for the Christmas season.
That would be more worse than the show had actually been any good, but it was rushed to Broadway and it was not strong enough to support being in that large of the theater at those high prices. But it’s not business as usual to see someone bow out the first week of December. |
