I know ''Moulin Rouge!'' isn't everyone's fan favorite, but for a lot of folks the show works. Its 10 Tony Awards aside, last week it racked up its 1,337 performance on Broadway. This is a show that opened in the summer of 2019, got shut down in March 2020 (due to COVID) and then reopened in September 2021. For much of its run, it's pretty consistently been in the high 90s in terms of capacity, and even as recently as March 17, 2024, it's been sold out or at 99% capacity every week since. There's something to be said about ''Moulin Rouge's'' resiliency and the Broadway audiences who flock to it. So, to quote one of its lyrics, maybe ''Moulin Rouge!'' ''wants to fill the world with silly love songs.'' And what's wrong with that? ;)
