The same thing happened with Our Town, didn't it? Schmidt and Jones wrote a musical version, Grover's Corners. It was done at the Marriott Lincolnshire outside of Chicago, and the idea of Mary Martin as the Stage Manager was talked about. But a New York version never materialized and they lost the rights. This was after Sammy Cahn and James Van Heusen had done a musical version for TV in the 1950s. |
