Before the Marriott Lincolnshire production of Grover's Corners, there was a workshop in New York at the Westbeth Theatre Center. John Cunningham was the Stage Manager, Liz Callaway was Emily, Scott Waara was George, and the cast also included Peg Murray, Ronn Carroll, MacIntyre Dixon, Marge Redmond, Willy Falk, Gary Beach and Kim Crosby. Press reports at the time said that this would a six-week workshop, starting on December 31, 1984. It wasn't clear if this meant that there would be six weeks of performances or several weeks of rehearsal followed by a week or two of performances. It was also said in press announcements about the workshop that the show would open on Broadway on May 1, 1985, following previews starting on April 11, but no theatre had yet been booked. I wouldn't count the Cahn-Van Heusen as a full musical. I think there were only three or four songs. |
