The lawsuit is at the link (link thanks to Joey Ledenio on the BroadwayWorld message boards). I am not a lawyer, but it really seems Adjmi has lifted portions of the play from a copyrighted book. A book he's admitted he's read. Some of the cribbed portions are small things that Caillat personally experienced, so I am guessing that they are not incidents that are widely known and discussed, and they are not found anywhere but in that book. And even if there's some legal reason why he ends up coming out victorious legally, I agree with workerbee above that his playwriting talents are kind of tainted at this point.

Of note, when asked about Caillat's concerns, Adjmi replied to The New Yorker, “When writing Stereophonic I drew from multiple sources—including autobiographical details from my own life—to create a deeply personal work of fiction. Any similarities to Ken Caillat’s excellent book are unintentional.”

I mentioned in a post here when I saw the play that I did not understand why Adjmi insisted on adhering so, so closely to the story of Fleetwood Mac if he is going to claim that the play is NOT about Fleetwood Mac. Why are the same characters British and American, with the same sex breakdown and the same romantic relationships as in the actual Fleetwood Mac? There is no reason within the world of the play why he had to stick so closely to the real-life composition of the group. I remember thinking that he must have more creative imagination than that. But he's taken incidents from the book and assigned them to the same characters. So maybe he doesn't have as much creative imagination as I thought. If you're going to copy an incident and claim it's just a coincidence, at least give it to a different character!
