Sorry if I'm morbid today -- just returned from a funeral and saw the news about Gavin Creel, a very fine performer and known to be a really good person.
Judy Tyler - star of "Pipe Dream" - famous for co-starring with Elvis in "Jailhouse RocK" and on tv on "Howdy Doody" - died at age 24 in terrible car crash. I was watching Steven Spielberg as a guest programmer on TCM with Ben Mankiewicz, and Spielberg acknowledged her fine performance in "Jailhouse Rock" upon talking about the sad story of her passing soon after filming it.
William Johnson - her co-star of "Pipe Dream" - many musical credits - died at 41 of a heart attack
Donald Richards - the original Woody in "Finian's Rainbow" - beautiful voice - died at age 34 - can't find cause of death in internet search, but love his voice on OCR singing those great songs
Carol Haney - famous for "Pajama Game" and as Gene Kelly's assistant in Hollywood, dancing in "Kiss Me, Kate" film, turned to choreography including "Flower Drum Song", "She Loves Me", and "Funny Girl" among other things - died at 39 - Wikipedia says she died of pneumonia in combination with alcoholism and diabetes. (I thought I had read somewhere it might have been suicide.)
Her ex-husband, Larry Blyden - many musical roles on Broadway - died in a car crash at 49.
Those are the first I can think of who really might have become leading lights and had bigger careers had they lived.
